10 things to know to extend your smartphone’s battery life
The battery of your smartphone is the most important and also the most abused component. The battery health continues to deteriorate and after six months of buying a new smartphone you are no longer happy with the battery time you are getting. A lot depends on how you use your smartphone and more importantly how you charge it. If you wish to extend the battery life of your smartphone, here are few things you can do…
1.Never let the battery level go down to 0%
Always charge your phone when you see the battery level go below 20%. Don’t use your device to exhaust the battery completely and then put it on charge.
2.Don’t charge throughout the night and never overcharge your smartphone
Most phones get fully charged within 90 minutes. So, it’s a bad idea to charge the battery throughout the night. Overcharging the battery deteriorates the battery health faster.
3.It’s okay not to charge your smartphone to 100% every time
To improve battery health, it’s advisable to stop charging when the smartphone gets around 90% battery level. This prevents overcharging and the battery life doesn’t get affected.
4.Opt for slow charging and use low wattage charging adapter to extend battery life
Fast charging is a convenience and just because you have a fast charging adapter doesn’t mean you have to use it always. Using a standard 5W adapter may take time to charge but in the long run, you will get more juice from the battery.
5.Use power saving mode when not playing games
Power saving mode is not just meant to be used when your phone is running out of battery. When you are not playing games or doing serious multitasking, using power saving mode helps improve battery health. You don’t always have to run your phone on all cylinders.
6.Disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth when not required
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drains battery. Keeping these two turned on always impacts battery health in the long run.
7.Avoid using wireless reverse charging feature to charge other devices like earbuds
Wireless reverse charging is another convenience and should be used only when there’s genuine need for it. Using this feature always impacts the battery life of your phone gradually.
8.Don’t use unauthorised chargers and charging cables
Avoid using random charging adapters and cables to charge your smartphone. These may heat the battery and reduce its lifespan through uneven charging.
9.Don’t plug cheap quality power banks to charge your phone
While using a power bank always be sure about the power rating and the brand. Don’t use cheap quality power banks to charge your phone.
To improve battery life, delete unused apps and also turn off background app refresh in the Settings menu for apps that are not frequently used.
