New Delhi: As per the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, it is mandatory for all the vehicle owners to buy motor insurance in India. According to the law, third-party liability insurance is a must. It may be noted that the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDAI) is planning to increase the third-party motor insurance rate by 10 to 20 per cent for cars, bikes and taxis.
According to insurers, motor insurance has been unprofitable for all because of everyday cases like rash driving, signal jumping, poor rood infrastructure, accidents in India, as reported by ToI.
If your car is damaged then in such a case you can make a claim. However, there are certain situations where your motor insurance claim gets rejects. Given below are possible reasons due to which your motor insurance claim may get rejected-
If you meet with an accident and found under the influence of alcohol or any other intoxicant then the insurer can reject your claim application. Apart from this, if your driving license has expired or is fake, then under such circumstances also, an insurer has a right to reject your claim.
Make sure to pay your policy premiums on time. if the policyholder fails to pay the premium on time then during the time of claim your insurer might not provide insurance coverage and reject your claim.
If the insurance company finds out the incorrect or false information during your claim application, they may call off the claim.
There is a set time frame by each insurance company, under which in case of accident policyholder must intimate insurance company. Not adhering to the time frame may lead to rejection of claim application.
In case of lack of evidence of the accident as well, the insurance company can reject the claim filed by you. It is better to click photographs of the damages and injuries caused during an accident. During the accident, inform the police and file an FIR. If possible, try noting down the name or other details of the driver involved.
