Karnataka Elections 2018: Bribe For Votes Scam Cracked Open, Exploitation Of Poor For Electoral Gain Exposed

Exposing the worst case of electoral corruption, Republic TV’s Editor, Investigations, Prema Sridevi has cracked open the bribe for votes scam on the eve of the critical Karnataka Assembly elections. Deep throat sources have revealed to Republic TV that need-based economic profiling of 9,896 individuals belonging to economically backward sections of society was done by a national party for political exploitation.

As per the sources, economically vulnerable individuals were asked what their needs were and then their needs were to be satiated in cash or kind on voting day. Massive economic profiling of the weaker sections of society was done, specially around the slums of Rajarajeshwarinagar in Bengaluru. Each of the counter-foils had every detail of the voters, including their names, contact details and their needs.

Top level sources within the Karnataka Election Commission have told Republic TV that the 9,746 voter ID cards that were seized on Tuesday at an apartment in Rajarajeshwarinagar, over which both BJP and Congress held briefings and counter-briefings, were genuine.

The voter ID cards were to be returned on voting day for the required vote to be cast in exchange for the ‘needs’ of the profiled voters being fulfilled.

Sources have revealed that the raided flat, which belongs to a former corporator named Manjula Nanjamari who has denied any involvement, hasn’t been rented out to a BJP member named Rakesh but to a lady named Rekha for a rent of Rs 16,000 per month. Sources have also told Republic TV that the lady in question had rented the flat just a month ago. This information raises question as to whether she rented the accomodation for the specific purpose of carrying out the scam.

The investigation agencies and Election Commission are now looking at the antecedents of Rekha.

Meanwhile, a high level BJP delegation will meet Central Election Commission on Wednesday at 6 pm regarding Electoral Photo ID Card (EPIC) cards in Karnataka Assembly elections. BJP leaders Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, J P Nadda, Dharmendra Pradhan, Smriti Irani, Gen V K Singh, S S Ahluwalia, Meenakshi Lekhi and Nalin Kohli are the part of this delegation.
